WELCOME HOME, WISCONSIN WOMEN VETERANS
The Wisconsin Women’s Network announces an updated brochure, “Women in Boots—Marching Home,” is now available for downloading on their website www.wiwomensnetwork.org. Originally issued in November 2006, the brochure has just been updated and lists a variety of employment, health and other benefits and resources available to women veterans in Wisconsin. The brochure makes an effort to connect women veterans with resources they need as they try to get back into the workforce and into their daily lives. Of the approximately 427,000 veterans in Wisconsin, about 28,000 or 6.55% are women.
Wisconsin Women’s Network Chair, Eve Galanter notes, “Women returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan face unique challenges. They often don’t know where to turn for health or reemployment-related issues or where to find other women veterans that they can relate to and talk with. Some of those issues may include suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder or finding jobs that are really equal to their qualifications. We believe the brochure can help them to adjust successfully to their post-service environment.”
Founded in 1979, the Wisconsin Women’s Network, a coalition of organizations and individuals, advances the status of women and girls in Wisconsin through communication, education, and advocacy.
