Janesville Gazette: Not Enough: Seniors Struggle on Social Security Alone

The Janesville Gazette featured the struggle of seniors living on Social Security alone and the work of the Wisconsin Elder Economic Security Initiative on the front page of the April 11, 2010 edition. Anna Marie Lux writes, “Johanna Hatch of the Wisconsin Women’s Network says one in five elders is living on Social Security alone, but their benefits are well below actual needs. Their flagship project - known as the Wisconsin Elder Economic Security Initiative - compared the costs of living to average Social Security income. Results clearly show that many seniors do not have enough money for food, housing, transportation, and health care.”
