Wisconsin Women’s Network Announces Applications Available For the Wisconsin Women’s Policy Institute

December 14, 2011

MADISON—The Wisconsin Women’s Network (WWN) today announced applications are available for its 2012 Wisconsin Women’s Policy Institute.  WWN seeks to recruit 10-15 participants for the non-partisan Wisconsin Women’s Policy Institute’s training program, to be held in Madison. The purpose of the Institute is to develop more effective women community leaders throughout Wisconsin.  In 2012, the Wisconsin Women’s Policy Institute will focus on issues concerning the health and well being of seniors. The goals of the Institute are to:

  • Increase the number of women community leaders throughout the state who are actively involved in shaping and implementing policies that affect the health and well-being of seniors
  • Help participants develop policy advocacy skills
  • Provide participants with knowledge and information about Wisconsin’s policy landscape including legislative and administrative policy processes
  • Help participants overcome perceived barriers and increase their confidence in understanding and taking part in the policy process
  • Build the capacity of participants and their organizations to do ongoing advocacy and policy-related work.

Training will take place on two consecutive days a month over the course of four months, beginning in March 2012. Training includes classroom instruction and experiential learning. Participants will learn the ins and outs of the legislative process, meet the important players, witness government in action and learn how to shepherd their own policy solutions through this process. Participants from non-profit and community organizations who want to increase their capacity for advocacy are strongly encouraged to apply. Scholarships to defer the costs of travel, accommodations, meals, etc. may be available based upon financial need.
