An Incredible Start to the 2012 Wisconsin Women’s Policy Institute
March 23, 2012
After months of planning and with your incredible support, the Wisconsin Women’s Network launched the 2012 Wisconsin Women’s Policy Institute last weekend. The 2012 Institute will train nine carefully-selected fellows to be policy advocates for Wisconsin’s seniors.
The first retreat of the 2012 Institute provided fellows with an overview of what it means to build a policy campaign, how to conduct legislative research and briefly guided fellows through the legislative process. Fellows also had the opportunity to hear from a panel of experts on issues affecting Wisconsin seniors. Finally fellows broke into teams led by a mentor and began to brainstorm potential policy ideas.
Training sessions for the 2012 Institute will continue through June 2012 with ongoing WWN support throughout the year. 2012 fellows represent an impressive variety of ethnic, geographic, educational and professional backgrounds, but all share an incredible passion for understanding the policy process and improving conditions for Wisconsin’s elder community.
